UW Facilities employees from Engineering Services and the Project Delivery Group staff the University’s Applied Technology Council - 20 (ATC-20) team, which is responsible for structurally assessing buildings after an earthquake, then posting whether or not the buildings are safe to go inside. Engineers assess the building inside and out, as well as all entrances and exits.

Our engineers work hand-in-hand with Environmental Health & Safety’s Pre-Entry Assessment Team (PEAT), which assesses labs and other spaces after an earthquake for potential chemical releases.

Schedule(s)

This work takes place after any seismic events. Engineers complete ATC-20 training annually, and conduct drills on campus buildings.
