This project will advance the University of Washington’s transition from fossil fuel-based steam generation to a low-carbon hot water distribution system. The new system will integrate with the existing UW Power Plant infrastructure and support future campuswide expansion of the hot water network.
The project includes the design and construction of a 6-megawatt electrode steam boiler, thermal energy transfer station and associated pumps within the UW Power Plant. It also includes installation of direct-buried hot water supply and return piping from the Power Plant to the new Chemical Sciences Building.
The distribution system will accommodate up to 15 future connections to central campus buildings, supporting continued expansion of the campuswide hot water network.
