Description
The University of Washington (UW or the University) is one of the nation’s most distinguished educational and research institutions and has one of the nation’s most beautiful campuses. The UW is soliciting Statements of Qualifications (SOQ) from qualified design-build teams consisting of a design-builder with mechanical and civil engineers to design and construct project Pivot – Hot Water Loop Phase 1. The mechanical and civil engineers are not required to be exclusive to one team. Additional consultants will be selected after award in collaboration with the UW.
Project Description: This project will advance the University's transition from fossil fuel-based steam generation toward a low-carbon hot water distribution network. This project is for one complete system that will integrate with the existing Power Plant system and be compatible with the full campus buildout. This project includes the design and construction of a 6MW electrode steam boiler, thermal energy transfer station and pumps in the UW Power Plant. In addition, the project includes the direct bury installation of supply and return hot water piping from the Power Plant to the new Chemical Sciences Building and is designed to accommodate 15 future connections for central campus buildings and future expansion of the campus-wide hot water system. The design of all project components will ensure flexibility and implementation of future clean energy projects within the Power Plant and campus grounds.
