Water leaks affect UW buildings, UW Medical Center
UW Facilities staff are working on repairs in two UW buildings after a water pressure reduction valve failed on Thursday, May 29.
Several areas of UW Medical Center and other UW buildings were also affected. The valve has been fixed, but the failure caused water leaks and triggered some building fire alarms.
In the Communications Building, water leaked onto an electrical panel, which meant Facilities needed to shut off water and power to the building on Friday, May 30 while repairs were made. Restoration of power is expected by the end of the day on Wednesday, June 4. After the power is turned back on, UW-IT will work on restoring internet and phone service to the building.
In the Oceanography Building, Facilities found the source of the leak, but due to its location, repairs will continue through next week. Facilities estimates that repairs will be complete by Friday, June 6. The building will be without water until then.
In addition to Communications and Oceanography, Facilities also completed repairs to the Aerospace & Engineering Research Building, Art Building, Smith Hall, Molecular Engineering & Sciences Building, Miller Hall, Marine Sciences Building, Parrington Hall and Raitt Hall.
Repairs were also made Thursday to the Health Sciences Building’s BB Tower. Future work is scheduled on two elevators that are not operational.
Facilities is continuing to closely monitor water pressure on campus and at UW Medical Center.
