The University of Washington changed to a new interactive campus map on December 12, bringing improved accessibility and wayfinding functionality.
Key features
- Wayfinding: Users can access turn-by-turn directions by clicking the directions and wayfinding icon in the Search area.
- Accessibility: The map is compatible with assistive technologies, such as screen readers and keyboard navigation, and includes options to highlight accessible routes, ramps and elevators. It also lists locations of accessible restrooms and parking spaces.
- UW in 3D: The map uses high-quality 3D renders to provide a dynamic and immersive way to visualize campus spaces.
- Search: Users can search by building name or browse categories such as parking, athletics, libraries, dining and housing and access more information, such as 360-degree photos and virtual tours.
The map is an information hub for all aspects of campus life, with links driving users to current content across UW sites. This commitment to universal design ensures that students, faculty, staff and visitors with diverse abilities can confidently explore and engage with our campus community.
Note: Wayfinding routes may be incomplete or inaccurate. Please report any issues with routing and other accessibility features using the form below. For more information on navigating the UW Seattle campus, visit the UW Facilities Access Guide.
Tell us what you think
The new map is the result of a collaboration between UW Facilities, University Marketing & Communications, UW-IT Accessible Technology Services and the ADA Office. Your observations and insights help the map team understand how users interact with the map and identify areas where the map may not be functioning optimally or could be enhanced.
December update: Individual building links now redirect from the old map to the new map. In some cases, users may need to clear their cache for them to work. Please note that the redirects are temporary and will be removed by the end of June, giving units time to make changes on their own digital properties.
Please continue to check your content and use the feedback form for any questions, feedback or map features ideas.
