Student employees are an important part of the UWF family, with more than 90 working in varied functions across the department. On the blog, we asked a few of our graduating student employees and interns how their time at UWF helped prepare them for life after college.
TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Hill-Crest, the official residence of the UW President, sits in Seattle's Madison Park neighborhood. Given as a bequest to the UW in 1932, the residence is also used for events. View photos of the grounds and learn about the work of Becky Koukal-Liebe, the maintenance mechanic lead who takes care of them. (UW NetID required)
Hot work is any activity or process that generates a source of ignition, such as a flame, heat or a spark. Hot work can be direct, where the equipment or tool creates a flame, or indirect, for example when using an abrasive wheel to cut metal produces sparks.
Hot Work Permits are required by Fire Code when using portable hot work equipment outside of a welding booth. You can now obtain a Hot Work Permit through the AiM work order system. This applies to work done by UWF employees, but not contractors.
Some shop locations, such as the Plant Services Building welding area, have an annual Hot Work Permit for that location only. No AiM Hot Work Permit is needed for work in these annual permit spaces.

PET OF THE MONTH
MacGuyver, Alaskan Klee Kai
Owner: Kelly Moore, Program and Event Coordinator, Maintenance & Construction
"MacGuyver is 17 years old and part of the UW Dog Aging Project. We’ve taken him on road trips, to my daughter’s horse shows and on many car rides. He’s happy just to be with his pack. Everywhere we go people always stop to look at him and note how well behaved he is."
