The Building Services Department (BSD) officially launched a pilot program in June providing free feminine products within select restrooms on the University of Washington campus in Seattle.
The West Campus Utility Plant (WCUP) serves as an extension of the University’s Power Plant, providing additional cooling and emergency power to the University’s expanding collection of research buildings in the southwest corner of campus.
Meany Center for the Performing Arts is now among the majority of buildings on campus that participate in MiniMax, a waste reduction program sponsored and facilitated by UW Recycling. It is through this program that UW Recycling works toward reaching its goal of 70% waste diversion by the year 2020.

Today UW's Emergency Management team, a Facilities Services department, provided support to University of Washington Police Department, Seattle Police Department and the Seattle Fire Department in a training scenario at the Bryants Building in southwest campus.
UW Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) and Building Services Department (BSD) recently partnered up for the Safety & Health Investment Project (also known as the SHIP grant project or Participatory Ergonomics Project). Funded by State of Washington, Department of Labor & Industries (L&I), the project team engaged BSD custodians and leadership, UW EH&S leadership, Facilities Services Safety Team, and professional ergonomists in a year-long collaboration.
Today, as a part of the 2016 SustainableUW Festival, the University of Washington celebrated its recertification as a Salmon Safe university. Salmon Safe certification entails meeting rigorous standards for irrigation efficiency, stormwater management, pesticide reduction and wetlands area management.
