Signs & sandwich boards

Sandwich boards and lawn signs are a great way to promote events and activities occurring on campus. In order to allow access for all groups, manage the number of signs across campus and maintain a beautiful and well-kept campus grounds permits are required for sandwich boards and lawn signs.

Requests and artwork must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the display date.

Artwork requirements

All artwork must be approved by UW Facilities. Make sure your artwork meets these requirements:

  • Sign artwork must be clearly associated with the University of Washington or a UW-affiliated organization. The artwork must contain at least one of the following:
    • University of Washington
    • The UW logo
    • The name of the school or department sponsoring the event.
  • Artwork should only contain the names and/or logos for UW-affiliated groups, including UW programs and Registered Student Organizations. The art may also include pre-approved sponsors where appropriate, such as Alaska Airlines, BECU, Pepsi or Starbucks.

Board requirements

  • Up to 10 sandwich boards may be on display for up to a two-week period.
  • Groups may provide their own boards or borrow from UW Facilities.
  • Boards may not be placed in locations that impact pedestrian traffic or vehicle visibility. There must be a five feet of clearance around any board in an open paved area.
  • Boards may not be chained or cable locked to University property.
  • Boards must be between 24" and 36" tall, and between 20" and 30" wide.

Cost

There is no fee for this service. However, if you are borrowing boards, a departmental payment worktag is required and you will be charged $100 per board for replacement boards for damaged or missing equipment.

Sign requirements

  • Up to 10 lawn signs may be on display for up to a two-week period.
  • Lawn signs may not be placed in locations that will impact pedestrian traffic or vehicle visibility. There must be five feet of clearance around any sign in an open paved area.
  • Lawn signs may not be chained or cable locked to University property.
  • Lawn signs should be placed in mulched areas to avoid being removed during work such as mowing and edging.
  • Lawn signs should be 24" wide and 18" tall, with a 10" x 30" silver H-stake.
