April showers yield May bikers

A look back at Bike Everywhere Month 2019
May 2019 Bike Everywhere Month

479 participants. 94,110 miles cycled. 39,005 pounds of carbon dioxide saved. Those are the telling numbers of this year’s Bike Everywhere Month at UW challenge. Students, staff and faculty hopped on their bikes, logged their rides, and had fun along the way through the month of May.

Various departments on campus gathered together to participate in the challenge, including the Information School. The Information School’s team, iRide, participated in our departmental partner program for Bike Everywhere Month and cycled 11,464 miles and completed 994 trips.

UW Transportation Services celebrated bike commuters and Bike Everywhere Month with events and special UW-exclusive swag. Every Monday in May, UW Transportation Services, ASUW Bike Shop and UWPD held a mini trailside afternoon party to provide bike commuters with snacks and swag, get their bikes assessed and registered on Bike Index. Classes were also held; topics ranged from mechanics to bike commuting 101.

In addition to all of these events, Transportation Services held the biggest bike party on campus on May 17, Bike Everywhere Day. Over 350 students, staff, faculty and visitors stopped by UW’s station to celebrate biking and the challenge. Internal campus partners (ASUW Bike Shop, UWPD, UWild) and external partners (Bike MS, KIND, Clif Bar, RAD Power Bikes, U District Let’s Go) also joined in on the fun by providing snacks, information, and product showcases.

UW is consistently one of the largest employer participants of the Bike Everywhere challenge.

“Bike Everywhere Month is the perfect opportunity for us to thank our bike commuters and commend them for helping make our campus a healthier and more sustainable place year ‘round,” says Elizabeth Bastian, Active Transportation Specialist.

If you participated in Bike Everywhere Month, be sure to complete Transportation Services’ wrap-up survey, so you can share your feedback about this year’s events and challenge. The survey closes July 17.

Thank you again to all of our supporters, partners, and of course, our participants. We’ll see you in November for Ride in the Rain.
