Huskies ride into spring

UW celebrates Bike Everywhere Month

May means summer is right around the corner - but for Huskies, it also means Bike Everywhere Month is finally here!

Bike Everywhere Month is a time to celebrate bicycling in all its forms. Whether you ride an old cruiser in sandals, a fancy racing bike in spandex or an e-bike with your kids in tow, UW Transportation Services wants to recognize your contributions to sustainable transportation on campus.

Interested in biking more, but not sure where or how to get started? Transportation Services is here to help. Our Bike Everywhere Month page has the complete list of classes, community events and other resources to help you get rolling this spring.

UW students, faculty and staff can sign up for the Bike Everywhere Challenge for the chance to win cool prizes, connect with fellow UW cyclists and set fun goals, such as measuring your rides in tacos burned off instead of miles. This challenge is open to everyone, new and seasoned riders alike. Within the first week of May, more than 300 UW challenge participants logged over 17,400 miles. That equates to an incredible 7,800 lbs of carbon dioxide saved by replacing car trips with bicycling trips.

Both cyclists and non-cyclists alike are invited to join Transportation Services and partners at Bike Everywhere Month-related events all month long on Rainier Vista. Every Monday afternoon from 4–6 p.m., Transportation Services will be on hand with ASUW Bike Shop and the UWPD offering trailside snacks, tune-ups, bike registration and exclusive UW Bike Everywhere Month swag.

UW will also be hosting one of the biggest Bike Everywhere Day parties in the region on Friday, May 18. Starting at 7 a.m. on Rainier Vista off the Burke-Gilman Trail, Transportation Services will be joined by organizations like the Whole U, UW Sustainability, UWPD, ASUW Bike Shop and more.

No matter your age, speed, ability, or what type of bike you use — UW wants you to know that Bike Everywhere Month is for you.
