UW FACILITIES EMPLOYEE NEWSLETTER / FEBRUARY 2021

Your Stepping Stones

UWF’s Stepping Stones to Success program gives employees the skills needed to advance toward supervisory positions. Each cohort runs weekly for 9 months, covering soft skills development, practical leader development, supervisory shadowing and a capstone project. Since COVID-19, we have worked to redesign the class for a Zoom experience. First up is a cohort of Building Services Department staff, who will be taking the class on Wednesdays through September 29.

These employees are supported by their leadership, both for the time commitment to attend these classes as well as the technological support and access needed to engage in the virtual world. We are excited to have this cohort running again and to help these employees gain the critical skills needed for advancement in their professional aspirations.

COVID-19 information

Vaccine information: Not sure when you qualify for the vaccine, or where to get it? Read this summary of what we know so far or go to the UW vaccine information page.

Where to get tested: Everyone on campus is encouraged to sign up for the Husky Coronavirus Testing Program. Employees not enrolled in the program but who have symptoms or close contact with an infected person can get tested through UW Medicine by emailing the UW COVID-19 Response Team at covidehc@uw.edu or calling 206-616-3344. Testing is always free.

Employee Emergency Fund: Eligible employees may request up to $750 for a critical, temporary, and unforeseen financial hardship due to COVID-19. There are also additional child care funds available to on-site staff. Learn more and apply.

Black History Month at the UW

UW Libraries has put together a diverse list of podcasts, films, books, archival materials and more to celebrate Black History Month. There are additional resources listed in President Ana Mari Cauce’s blog post, “Black history is American history.”

PAYROLL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Make a plan to use vacation or risk losing it!
If you are a classified employee normally there is a vacation hours cap of 240 hours that is applied on your anniversary date. Due to COVID this rule has been suspended by the governor, but the 240-hour cap may be reapplied at any time without any warning. Given this, it is recommend that all classified employees make a plan to use their excess vacation hours before their anniversary date so that you don’t risk losing this time when the rule is reinstated.

To find your anniversary date (called Time Off Service Date):

  1. Log into Workday
  2. Click the Cloud icon in the top right corner, then click on your name
  3. Click Actions under your name and job title, mouse over Worker History and click on View My Service Dates
To find out how much leave you’ll need to use by checking your vacation balance on your anniversary date. Follow steps 1 and 2 above, then:
  1. Click on Actions under your name and job title, mouse over Time and Leave and click on View Time Off Results by Period.
  2. In the Time Off Plans box, type in Vacation and press enter on your keyboard.
  3. Then click in the box for Periods, click on 2021 and choose the month before your anniversary date (ex. if July 3rd is your anniversary date then choose 06/01/2021 – 06/30/2021) and then click OK.
  4. The Ending Period Balance Including Pending Events will show you how many hours you’ll have on your anniversary date
