UW FACILITIES EMPLOYEE NEWSLETTER / OCTOBER 2020

Reminder: Open Enrollment Nov. 1-30

Do you need to make Open Enrollment changes?
Open Enrollment (Nov. 1-30) is an optional, once-a-year opportunity for PEBB benefits-eligible employees to enroll in or make changes to their health plan elections in Workday. In most cases, you don’t need to do anything. There are only a few instances in which an employee is required to make changes during this time.

You DO NOT need to make changes during Open Enrollment if:
• You are happy with your current elections and don’t want to make any changes or add/remove dependents
AND
• You do not wish to enroll in, or continue to enroll in, a Flexible Spending Arrangement (FSA) or the Dependent Care Assistance Program (DCAP)
AND
• You either are not married or do not cover your spouse/partner for benefits

You DO need to make changes during Open Enrollment if:
• You want to make changes to your health plan (including adding or removing dependents from your medical and/or dental plans)
• You want to enroll in, or continue to enroll in, an FSA or the DCAP
• You cover your spouse/partner for benefits AND you’ve received notice that you need to attest/re-attest (respond) that you do or do not owe a $50 monthly Spousal Surcharge Premium. For help determining whether or not you need to re-attest, see the Attesting to the Spouse/Partner Premium Surcharge During Open Enrollment page.

Still unsure?
Check out the Open Enrollment 101 (PDF) guide if you are still wondering what, if anything, you need to do during Open Enrollment.

Need help making changes during Open Enrollment?
Partner Resources staff will be available through Zoom to assist you in navigating your way through Workday to make sure adjustments are entered successfully.

  • Thursday, 11/5: 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
  • Tuesday, 11/10: 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Friday, 11/20: 9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m.
  • Monday, 11/23: 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Special enrollment opportunity for optional life insurance
During this year’s Open Enrollment, MetLife is offering benefits-eligible employees a unique, one-time opportunity to enroll in or increase their supplemental life insurance coverage – without having to submit proof of good health.

Normally, you must provide evidence of insurability (including the release of medical records) if enrolling in optional life insurance after your original 31-day enrollment window. Instead, this year only, eligible employees can sign up by answering just five health questions.

To take advantage of this opportunity, sign into MetLife’s MyBenefits at any point during November 2020 to enroll. (Optional life insurance is managed entirely by MetLife – there is no action required in Workday.)

Learn about benefit changes and your options for 2021

• Explore the Virtual Benefits Fair: Learn about your benefit options for 2021 and register for webinars hosted by insurance plan providers throughout October and November.
• Visit the Health Care Authority’s (HCA’s) Open Enrollment webpage: Find 2021 premiums, summaries of benefits and coverage, online webinars, and other resources for comparing medical and dental plans.
• Compare plan options and providers: You can also reach out directly to insurance providers ahead of time if you still have questions about whether another plan is right for you or your family.

Support during COVID-19
2020 has been a challenging year and it is always helpful to know where to go for more help. UW CareLink has an online catalog of articles, videos, and other resources available on its ComPsych website. Use “UW” as the organizational ID when registering for the first time.

All-Hands recap
Thanks for attending UWF’s inaugural online All-hands meeting. If you missed it, you can watch it on the UWF Employee Portal.

Provide input about the UW’s Title IX response
New federal Title IX rules went into effect in August, requiring universities to respond to particular forms of sexual misconduct in specific ways. UW employees and students from all campuses can provide input on how the UW adjusts its interim Title IX policies and practices for responding to harassing behaviors in our UW community. Register to attend the Oct. 28 (1 p.m.) or Oct. 29 (11 a.m.) sessions to provide input.

Two-factor authentication for Facilities Information Library starts Nov. 5

The Facilities Information Library (FIL) records search website, managed by UW-IT, is adding another layer of security to prevent misuse of data. Starting Thursday, Nov. 5, the FIL will use Duo Mobile, the same two-factor authentication (2FA) system used for Workday. For help setting up a 2FA device, visit the UW-IT website or contact help@uw.edu.

Recognition

Congratulations to the following employees who received promotions in September: Daniel Higginbotham, Power Plant Electrician High Voltage Lead, Campus Utilities and Operations;  Jerald Anderson, Manager of Program Operations Stores, Materials Management; and Jillian Paxton, Program Operations Analyst, Project Delivery Group. And a fond farewell to recent retiree Brian Goetschius, a Power Plant Operating Engineer 2, who served Facilities 40 years! To read about other arrivals and departures in September, go here.

From the blog

It wasn’t business as usual, but not even COVID-19 prevented UW Facilities and its partners from the safe construction and completion of the Hans Rosling Center for Population Health.
