UW FACILITIES EMPLOYEE NEWSLETTER / AUGUST 2020

Spotlight: Equity and inclusion initiatives

Facilities staff engage with the issues
Learn what your Workforce Equity Group (WEG) has been up to and hear about how one unit has created its own social justice discussion group in this update on the employee website.

Title IX regulations
Title IX, the federal gender equity law, prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in schools, colleges, and universities. The term “Title IX” is often used as a short-hand to describe the sub-set of policies, procedures, or programs that specifically address sexual misconduct. New Title IX regulations went into effect on August 14. Learn more at the UW’s new Title IX website at: washington.edu/titleix

UW and UW Facilities launch diversity websites
UWHR’s new Diversity, Equity & Inclusion website brings together previously existing resources and newly developed tools, tips and guidance to help recruit, retain and engage UW’s workforce. Check it out at: hr.uw.edu/diversity

UW Facilities also recently launched a new Race, Equity and Diversity at UW Facilities page on the Partner Resources website with links to resources dedicated to these important topics. You can find it at: facilities.uw.edu/partner-resources/

PAYROLL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Comp Time & Holiday Credit Payout: Due to COVID-19, the UW delayed the payout of Comp Time and Holiday Credit. Please note the following deadlines and key dates:

  • This year employees can use and accrue comp time through 9/15/2020.
  • Additionally, staff can use comp time and holiday credit through 9/30/2020 as long as their leave request is entered and approved in Workday by 9/15/2020.
  • Please note no comp time can be accrued between 9/16/2020 – 9/30/2020 while the payout of comp time is being processed by Facilities Payroll.
  • After 9/15/2020 all remaining comp time and holiday credit not used in the month of September will be paid out on the first paycheck in October.
  • Accrual of comp time will resume on 10/1/2020.

Extension for Exceeding 240 hours on Anniversary Date:
(Classified Staff Only)
The excess vacation time off forfeiture waiver remains in effect until September 1, 2020 for classified staff who have exceeded 240 hours of vacation time off. Once the proclamation expires, WA State law requiring excess vacation time off forfeiture on a classified employee’s anniversary date will resume. Where appropriate and feasible, we encourage employees to request to use their vacation time off to ensure they do not forfeit excess vacation time off on their anniversary date once the restriction is put back in place.

How to wear masks

Wear your mask correctly:

  • Wash your hands before putting on your mask
  • Put it over your nose and mouth and secure it under your chin
  • Try to fit it snugly against the sides of your face
  • Make sure you can breathe easily
  • CDC does not recommend use of masks or cloth masks for source control if they have an exhalation valve or vent

Wear a mask to protect others:

  • Wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth to help protect others in case you’re infected with COVID-19 but don’t have symptoms
  • Wear a mask in public settings when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when it may be difficult for you to stay six feet apart
  • Wear a mask correctly for maximum protection
  • Don’t put the mask around your neck or up on your forehead
  • Don’t touch the mask, and, if you do, wash your hands or use hand sanitizer to disinfect

Take off your mask carefully, when you’re home:

  • Untie the strings behind your head or stretch the ear loops
  • Handle only by the ear loops or ties
  • Fold outside corners together
  • Place mask in the washing machine (learn more about how to wash masks)
  • Be careful not to touch your eyes, nose, and mouth when removing and wash hands immediately after removing
