Bloodborne pathogens safety

Bloodborne Pathogens Safety SAFETY 95-2 (Rev. 5/95)

Purpose

To protect the safety of UW Facilities employees who may have exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.

Practice

Employees in job categories listed in the attachment must (1) receive training, (2) be offered Hepatitis B immunization, (3) use personal protective equipment, (4) follow safe work practices, and (5) report any exposure incident as prescribed in the University of Washington Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan. Copies of the plan are contained in the Reference Stations and are available from the UWF Safety Administrator and from Environmental Health and Safety.

BBP requirements

Persons employed in the following occupation codes (and Helpers and Student Helpers when engaged in any of the work activities covered by these occupation codes) shall wear personal protective equipment as directed, be offered Hepatitis B immunization, follow safe work practices, and receive training in accordance with the UW Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan.

Persons employed in the following occupation codes (and Helpers and Student Helpers when engaged in any of the work activities covered under this section) shall wear personal protective equipment as directed, be offered Hepatitis B immunization, follow safe work practices, and receive training in accordance with the UW Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan BEFORE BEING ASSIGNED ANY TASK THAT MAY EXPOSE THEM TO BLOOD OR OTHER INFECTIOUS MATERIALS.
